Made of Red Oak, each casket is handcrafted by our artisans. Red Oak is a premium wood often used in furniture or flooring. It's not only beautiful but durable. All of our children's caskets are made from Red Oak grown in our own forest. As a living memorial, we also plant a Red Oak tree in honor of every child who is buried in one of our caskets. A special mass will be said in the child's name. As with all Trappist Caskets, each child casket includes a natural muslin-upholstered interior, pillow, and mattress, which makes them ideal for presentation caskets. Both the child casket and the youth model come with custom-made solid brass handle. The youth casket also comes with a two-piece screw down lid. A two-coat clear lacquer finish protects the casket. It can be adorned with a wooden cross on the lid at no additional cost. The monks at New Melleray offer no explanation for such an emotionally challenging event. In compassion and faith the monks accompany families into this mystery. By providing children's caskets, made as if they were cradles, the monks' prayer is that our children will be commended to God's love and care forever. Custom Engraving Trappist Caskets offers custom engraving to enable families to personalize a wooden casket by including the name of your child and their significant dates. A casket can also be engraved with a religious symbol or image, a prayer, special blessing, or quotation in order to pay further tribute to his or her memory. Custom engraving on wooden caskets costs from $175 to $250.
