Handcrafted Premium Shaped Walnut Caskets
Our Premium Shaped Walnut Casket, which is also available in Oak, is a traditional old-world coffin. While still popular in Europe, this style is not easy to find in the United States and we at Trappist Caskets are pleased to make it available to our customers. The natural beauty of Walnut is enhanced by this classic shape which is reminiscent of times past when life was simpler and less complicated. In those days, simple unadorned coffins were made by hand and that tradition continues here at Trappist Caskets where we have been building our own coffins by hand for over 150 years each time one of our brothers has died. We do not use nails when constructing our Trappist Caskets and the corners are mitered using Old World joinery techniques.

In addition to combining superior materials with skilled workmanship, our caskets are the result of a reverent approach to manual labor that sets them apart from those that are mass produced. Because we believe work is a form of prayer, each casket reflects the same careful attention to detail that we have been using for over 150 years whenever one of our own brothers dies. Instead of being distracted by unnecessary ornament, the eye is drawn to this casket's natural, organic beauty — the warmth of the wood and the crisp miters.
All Trappist Caskets include an upholstered interior, mattress, pillow and adjustable bed. The pillow, veil, and inside lid panel on this casket comes with an upholstery upgrade that consists of a diamond pattern with a pearl stitch inside each diamond. Our premium rectangular casket, which is also available in Oak and in oversized dimensions, comes with a two-piece hinged lid and is treated with a two-coat clear lacquer to protect the dark beauty of the Walnut and bring out its natural wood grain. It can be adorned with an engraved cross on the lid at no additional cost. A wooden keepsake cross which fits inside the engraved cross is intended to be removed and kept by the family as a memorial. (Additional keepsake crosses are available at a minimal charge.) This beautiful casket is an ideal choice for traditional wakes and funerals. Knowing that it was constructed in the prayerful environment of New Melleray Abbey and personally blessed by one of the monks is often a source of comfort and consolation to those who are mourning the loss of a loved one.
Custom Engraving
Custom Engraving is available at an additional cost enabling families to personalize caskets with a loved one's name and significant dates. Religious symbols or images, prayers, blessings, poems, or quotations can also be engraved.

Knowing that all caskets purchased with crosses are constructed in the prayerful environment of New Melleray Abbey and personally blessed by one of the monks is often a source of comfort and consolation to those who are mourning the loss of a loved one.
